PHANTOM OWNER FLIES LEGAL ULTRALIGHT
PHANTOM WITH MZ 201 ENGINE |
A Little Different “Pull” on a PhantomBy Gary Frank (re-printed from the Alamo Air Force
Newsletter) The engine is an MZ201. It is 45 hp at 4700 rpm with
a belt drive. The engine is the same as the 65 hp model but only has 1
small carburetor and no fan cooling. I came down once in a cornfield until I learned how to tighten the belt, now it seems
quite dependable. With a small battery my phantom fits in FAR Part 103 by 5 pounds. With 40 hours on
the engine it runs smoother and quieter than a Rotax 503 - in other words so far so good.
To add to the fun of it, it burns 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 gallons/ hr so the 5-gallon tank works. If
someone wanted to or has to stay in Part 103, this could be a good solution. For info. see www.compactradialengines.com . |
